In the year since we honored Anita what would have been her 65th birthday with a pledge to stay active and engaged, thousands of you have heeded our call to stand up and be counted. You have acted to stop climate change with One Hundred Months and signed Amnesty International’s 42 Days petition. You spoke out against the executions of Jack Alderman and Troy Davis. You turned out in force against illegal detentions with Reprieve.
Anita would be proud. We are proud, and grateful. But there is more to do, and we want to honor her never-give-up spirit today, on her birthday.

A year on since Anita died, and in most ways, nothing about her loss is easier to take. I miss the daily breathless phone calls, chock-a-block with some new master passion for a cause she had just heard of through a friend of a friend. The beauty and gift of Anita was that she had so much energy and passion, she'd happily lend you some.

Anita's longtime friend and colleague Vida Zandnia and Anita's family were on hand for the unveiling of a plaque marking the site of the first The Body Shop store site in Brighton this week. On 23 October, two thousand five hundred of Anita's closest "friends and co-conspirators" gathered at Central Hall Westminster to celebrate her life and work. The event was followed by a chilly but invigorating march of thousands along the South Bank of the Thames, many waving "I Am an Activist" placards and chanting slogans, all pledging to carry on Anita's work. Marina Drummer, lead organiser of the campaign to Free the Angola Three, was in attendance and sent this moving account:

Today is World Hepatitis Awareness Day. Charles Gore, chief executive of The Hepatitis C Trust, has written the following tribute to Anita in observation of this day, when Anita was scheduled to speak in the European Union Parliament in Brussels on the subject.
When Anita first contacted The Hepatitis C Trust last year to say that she wanted to help raise awareness of hepatitis C, it seemed almost too good to be true. Hepatitis C in the UK had always lacked a high-profile champion. I think all of us at The Trust believed that someone would eventually appear, but I am absolutely certain that none of us thought it would be someone quite so perfectly fitted for the role.
