Join with our colleagues at 38 degrees in lobbying the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, to tax bankers' bonuses. As taxpayers we have spent billions bailing out the banks, so it's only fair to put a tax on their bonuses.
Please participate - it'll only take 2 minutes of your time.

Ann Pettifor, author and analyst of the global financial system, has written a piece on her blog titled ‘1945, government debt, bond markets, sterling – and all that’ which illustrates the silliness of the Conservative Party’s plan to cut public expenditure. Grab a coffee and read her article - it is really important thinking….

As America and the world fills with hope for an end to a failed US Administration, Britain's Parliament is set to fail us again. Tomorrow, MPs will vote on keeping details of their personal expenses a secret, by excluding them from The Freedom of Information Act. Please act today to ensure your MP votes against this shameless proposal.

It has taken two weeks to digest the results of the U.S. presidential election. I sat with some of Anita's family & friends in Santa Barbara as CNN flashed the results – "Projection: Barack Obama, President-Elect of the United States of America." I went numb as joyous shouts went up around me. Tears ran down my face. It was like waking up from a truly horrible, and inexcusably long nightmare.

Sometimes a surge of the holiness of the human heart comes when a friend sends you an email. My friend, Kate, who has gone through enough pain and joys in her young life to write an epic poem sent me this. A poet with conviction, truly.

I have a friend and colleague living in Nicaragua – Nick Hoskyns. Nick runs one of The Body Shop Community Trade projects - organising family farmers to grow, harvest and sell to us amazing sesame oil. Nick is English.... a true die-hard Sandinista.... and thinks politics should be about people. Nothing more, nothing less. He also, like me, thinks that governments should measure their greatness not by the obscene military budgets but how they care for their weak and frail. Nick sent me this message on the Nicaraguan elections.

No doubt about it, the website Physorg.com which has just come to my attention, is absolutely fascinating.
Take time to scroll down to the facts and charts. Every American politician whether they be corrupt, corporate or honest and honourable should keep an eye on, refer to, or fear a site like this.

This is the stuff that makes reading political commentary so bloody exciting. Molly Ivens writes as I, and millions of others, who deeply love the USA feel about the greed and manipulation of this present administration. It wasn’t so long ago that the Murdoch mouthpiece, The New York Post called me a terrorist sympathiser because I wrote an article in The Independent newspaper in the UK accusing Bush’s gang of eroding civil liberties in America. I should have done what Molly suggested and told them to ‘shove it!’
