Don't Turn a Blind Eye to Torture

On Sunday (27th November) Amnesty International UK are holding a mass demonstration in Downing Street, calling on the UK Government not to turn a blind eye to torture.

It is truly shocking that the UK government is seeking agreements to return people to countries known to use torture and that they should be deploying its diplomats around the Middle East to negotiate ‘diplomatic assurances’ so that they can return people to the inevitable risk of torture in countries such as Algeria, Libya and Jordan.

The law is clear. States must never torture people and must never send people to countries where they might be tortured.

Please join me at this public demonstration to tell the UK Government: Don’t turn a blind eye to torture. The demonstration will be assembling at 1.00pm at Downing Street and Amnesty would request that everyone taking part wears black.

I hope to see you there!
